Health tips from the '30s and '40s part 1.

January 13, 2012

I've always loved playing around with homeopathic home, garden & kitchen remedies. Only with small ailments ofcourse, as with severe ones you should always see a doctor. The human being has always tried to fight discomforts, ailments, and diseases. Thus throughout the ages; many remedies and solutions reached the modern age. Herbs often take a central role in this. Ofcourse hygiene and nutricion in achieving health are worth including. Because they formerly made good use of what nature had to offer, our grandparents facilitated their lives.

Here's a small grip of my health tips collected from the bygone era's.

  • Black pepper is a good remedie for the first upcoming signals of an ailment. A mixture of black pepper and honey works very well against a sore throat. However, you have to use freshly ground pepper, approximately one/eighth teaspoon.
  • Tea from olive leaves works really well against a high blood pressure  and lowers the sugar from the blood.
  • When you make tea from the leaves of walnut, you have a remedy for skin diseases, aswell for indigestion, diabetes, or jaundice. Externally it can be applied as follows: Make an infusion of walnut leaves in a hot tub and use it for acne, sweaty feet, thrush or rash to come.
  • Passion flower can be used by making tea of the leaves. You can use it for insomnia, nervous disorders, anxiety and high blood pressure.

  • The tomato can be used as a mask for facial skin. The juice from the tomatoes, mixed with lemon juice and glycerin are a suitable beauty lotion for your hands.

  • If you want to stay slim, stop eating after 20.00 'o clock.
  • Drink to lose weight, every morning a glass of boiled water with lemon juice and salt. For me, this really works.
  • This works against wrinkles: wash the face and neck every evening with the broth from the needles of the silver fir.
  • Cucumber juice is, just like cold tea, a good replacement for an expensive tonic. Your face feels renewed.
  • Dark hair shines if it's rinsed with water and some vinegar. Blonde hair shines when it's rinsed with water and lemon juice.
  • Afraid to grow grey? Wash your hair with vinegar water.
  • Long hair is easier to comb after washing it when it's rinsed with vinegar water.

  4. So interesting. I JUST bought two books this last week, one is homeopathy for infants and children, and the other is for all ages. I'm definitely into using homeopathy for illnesses/ailments that can be treated at home. Thanks for sharing!
